Requirements to apply for VISA
REMARKS
•
Beginning on December 1, 2007, the immigration authorities of the Republic of Bolivia will require all United States citizens traveling as tourists to obtain a visa.
•
The visa will be valid for five (5) years from the date of issue and the admission period per year will be ninety (90) days.
•
A visa holder will be able to use the visa for up to three (3) times in one (1) year for a total period of ninety (90) days. The Bolivian immigration authorities may extend the visa period in cases where the applicant shows justifiable cause.
•
The visa application can be submitted by mail or in person at any Bolivian Consulate.
•
To apply by mail, the user must send all required documents along with a pre-paid postage and envelop with the return address to the Consulate’s Office.
•
Visas will be issued in forty eight (48) hours after receipt of the application.
•
If an applicant is traveling to visit friends or relatives Bolivia, a letter of invitation specifying the host address from the Bolivian citizen will suffice the invitation requirements.
•
An exemption from the Yellow Fever vaccine requirement must be supported by a note from a primary physician or pediatrician certifying that the applicant cannot receive the vaccine for health reasons.
REQUIREMENTS FOR UNITED STATES CITIZENS TO OBTAIN
A TOURIST VISA TO TRAVEL TO BOLIVIA
1.
A complete sworn statement for visa application, which may be obtained at the link below “FORMULARIO_VISA_TURISTA_CON_FOTO.doc”. A full color passport size photo should be glued to the application. The face should cover at least 80% of the image and no glasses should be worn.
2.
An American passport that is valid for at least six (6) months of travel.
3.
A copy of the hotel reservation or invitation letter from Bolivian friends or relatives indicating the host address.
4.
A round trip ticket or copy of travel itinerary.
5.
Proof of economic solvency. This may be demonstrated with a photocopy of a bank statement or credit card.
6.
A copy of a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
7.
A visa fee of one hundred US dollars ($100). Cash, direct deposit and money order are accepted.
BOLIVIAN CITIZENS THAT HAVE OBTAINED AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP DO NOT REQUIRE A VISA TO ENTER BOLIVIA. THEY NEED ONLY PRESENT A VALID BOLIVIAN IDENTIFICATION CARD ALONG WITH THEIR AMERICAN PASSPORT AND CERTIFICATE OF YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION.
